Approved Postage Meters
 

Australia Post will only issue new postage meter licenses for standard-compliant postage meters. These are the only meters that entitle customers to a 2.5% rebate on postage meter resets.

The following postage meters are listed on behalf of third parties for your convenience. Australia Post is not responsible for the accuracy of third party representations and will not be liable for any loss or damage whatsoever arising from reliance on these representations or the services provided.

This list is current as at 2 June 2009.

What is the Postage Meter Standard?

The standard is a set of mandatory specifications with which all machines licensed on or after 1 February 2005 must comply.

The current Postage Meter Standard requires all meters licensed on or after 1 February 2005 to be equipped with the following features:

• Modem resetting - the postage meter is electronically re-credited with postage funds by modem.
• Unique postage impression
• Ability to transfer meter usage data by modem - meters must be capable of capturing, storing and transmitting information concerning the number and type of mail articles metered.

How does the Standard Affect Current Customers?

• Current machines - If your machine was licensed on or after 1 February 2005 then it will comply with the current standard. If it was licensed prior to 1 February 2005, it will comply with a previous standard.  Either way you can continue operating your machine under the terms of your existing license agreement.
• New machines - Customers are only able to choose from meters that comply with the current standards. Contact your supplier for more information.
• Selling your postage meter or franking machine - A machine can only be re-licensed for use by another customer if it complies with the current standard.
• Upgrading your postage meter or franking machine - Some existing machines can be upgraded to comply with the standard, at the customer’s expense. Contact your supplier for more information.

Suppliers and their agents have a variety of metering solutions and can assist you to select an approved postage meter which suits your budget and business needs. Suppliers also stock consumables such as adhesive labels and Australia Post approved ink.
