Preparing Metered Mail

Australia Post has specific requirements for the preparation and lodgement of metered mail.

  • Return Address - Metered mail must bear the sender's address either:
    - On the front of the article, in the top left corner;
    - Within the slogan block; or
    - On the back flap or wrapper of the article.

  • Postage Impressions - Metered postage impressions must be applied to the top right hand corner of the address side of the mail article.

  • Date - Printing the date in the impression is optional for postage meter customers. However, if the impression on an item does bear a date then that item may only be lodged on the date that appears in the impression.

  • Correct Addressing - Prepare metered mail in accordance with our correct addressing standards. This is mandatory for metered PreSort, Clean Mail and Print Post articles.

  • Bundling - Metered letters of the same size should be arranged so the address sides face the same way and be fastened in bundles using two rubber bands. Bulky items and parcels do not require bundling.

  • PreSort Letters, Clean Mail, Charity Mail, Print Post and Impact Mail -  Customers accessing the PreSort Letters, Clean Mail, Charity Mail, Print Post and Impact Mail  must prepare and lodge their mail in accordance with the relevant conditions. View the Meter Lodgement Document (pdf, 436kb.  Adobe Acrobat is required to read this file. If you cannot access the file, call 13 13 18). For Print Post and Impact mail please use the relevant lodgement documents.
  • Special Services: Metered Registered Post, C.O.D and EMS International Courier articles must be separated from other mail and lodged over the counter. Metered local delivery letters and parcels must be lodged at the counter of the Australia Post office from which they will be delivered. This service is subject to restrictions an conditions.
