Together with over 60,000 Scout members around the country, Australia Post will heed the motto “be prepared” with today’s launch of a special Scouting anniversary stamp issue.
Featuring images that capture the spirit and camaraderie of Scouts Australia, the series showcases three images to celebrate the centenary of Australian Scouting and 2008 – Year of the Scout.
A 50 cent stamp depicts Joeys, Cubs and Scouts in an action shot that highlights the resourcefulness and teamwork sentiment so strong within the Scouting culture. The international stamps feature a more global image that depicts the goodwill of Scouts from around the world including an Australian Scout in an orange shirt, and a commemorative profile of international founder Lord Robert Baden-Powell.
Australia Post Group Manager Philatelic Noel Leahy is delighted with the Scouting in Australia series.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for Australia Post to play a role in reminding the community just how important Scouting Australia is for our youth. For over 100 years Scouts have instilled in young Australians leadership, teamwork, self-reliance, resourcefulness, bushcraft, mateship and fun. It is an honour to acknowledge this through the Scouting in Australia series” said Mr. Leahy.
Scouts Australia encompasses Joey Scouts, Cub Scouts, Scouts, Venturer Scouts and Rovers, with each age level group welcoming males and females. The global Scouts 100th Anniversary was in 2007.
The Scouting in Australia series includes a first day cover, stamp pack, maxicard, Year of the Scout prestige cover with badge and Year of the Scout sheetlet pack. Stamps are available from selected Australia Post outlets and via mail order on 1800 331 794. Overseas customers can purchase online at www.auspost.com.au/stamps.
