Australia Post has an extensive mail network that takes your letters and parcels from the street posting box to letterboxes throughout Australia and the world. This network makes sure that you receive your mail reliably and on time.

Posting box
Your letter starts its journey in the street posting box or at your local post office. Letters are collected six days a week and taken to the mail centre in your state’s capital city.

Mail centre
Mail is barcoded and postmarked at the mail centre. It is then sorted electronically into different postcode destinations.

Despatch & Transport

The mail is sent to its destinations within each state, interstate and overseas. It travels by all modes of transport – rail, road, sea and air.

Sorting
Mail arrives at delivery centres and is sorted by hand into street delivery rounds and post office boxes.

Delivery
The postie delivers the mail to household letterboxes and business addresses. You’ve got mail!
