It’s important to address an envelope properly, so that the mail sorting machines in mail centres can sort it accurately and quickly and so that the postie knows where to deliver it.

On the Front of the envelope, write the Addressee details (to whom you are sending the letter).

And on the Back of the envelope, write the Sender details (that’s you!).

Tips to help you:

  • Write as clearly as possible
  • Check that the street number and name are correct
  • Make sure you have spelt all the words correctly
  • Make sure the postcode is correct. You can pick up a book of postcodes from your local post office. They are also available at the back of the White Pages telephone directory and from the Postcode Search  on the home page of the Australia Post website
  • Use the postcode squares if provided - one for each number
  • To learn more go to the Correct Address section of the Australia Post website (auspost.com.au).
