What is Impact Mail?

Impact Mail is a delivery service that allows customers to send addressed mail items of virtually any shape or design, without the need for an envelope. Mail items can be made of paper based stock or a range of other non-paper materials such as rubber, plastic, laminate, vinyl, leather or wool.

For further detail on the Impact Mail service, visit more information.

How much will it cost?

Due to the manual labour required to process shaped mail articles, Impact Mail is a premium service. The postage rate depends on the size of the article, destination and the level of article sorting. Postage rates start at:

  • $0.60¢ for Small Letters
  • $0.85¢ for Small Plus Letters

Costs to produce Impact Mail articles can vary between suppliers and depend on the shape (die-line) to be developed and stock being used. The Impact Mail costs guide gives postage costs as well as indicative production costs for recent Impact Mail campaigns that have been done.

Why use Impact Mail?

You can use Impact Mail to:

  • get more creative with your mail pieces. Thinking outside the traditional oblong shaped mail piece can give your piece the attention it deserves.
  • create instant brand recognition. By creating your mail piece in the shape of something associated with your product or brand the recipient can make an instant and long lasting association.
  • give your mail piece longevity. The more unique a mail piece is, the more likely recipients are to retain and share it with friends and family.

How do I access the service?

To access the Impact Mail service:

  • a minimum of 300 letters of the same size category are required.
  • you do not need to apply to use the service, however non-paper items should be submitted for testing prior to lodgement. These can be sent to: Australia Post, Attn Manager Customer Connections, GPO Box 1777, MELBOURNE, VIC, 3001. Contact us to have your artwork checked prior to production.
  • the mailing needs to be prepared in accordance with the conditions of the Impact Mail service and lodged with the completed Impact Mail lodgement document.
  • a manifest is required to support each Impact Mail lodgement over 10,000 articles. The manifest provides a breakdown on letter volumes for each sort category. The sample manifest document provides an overview of the information required.
