What is Metering?
Metering is the new technology franking. Postage meters are reset by modem and offer your business a wide range of additional benefits, for example, customers using metering receive a 2.5% rebate on every postage meter reset.
The Difference between Metering & Franking
Postage meters are modern franking machines, equipped with sophisticated features and capabilities. Postage meters are reset by modem, electronically driven, can calculate postage rates and access many other business mail services.
Australia Post, in conjunction with meter suppliers, developed a minimum standard for all postage meters licensed on or after 1 January 2002. Only meters which comply with the requirements of the Postage Meter Standard are eligible for licensing by Australia Post.
The old franking machines are mechanical or electro-mechanical and usually reset at the post office, or by phone. They are equipped with impact printing technology only (where an engraved stamp physically places an impression on the mail article).
Approved Postage Meter Models
Australia Post will only issue new postage meter licenses for standard - compliant postage meters. These are the only meters that entitle customers to a 2.5% rebate on postage meter resets.
