Occupational Health & Safety |
Post continued to create a safe and secure work environment through workplace safety initiatives and injury prevention and management. One example was the identification of safety measures by a team of OHS and operational specialists after analysing all aspects of forklift truck operation. This resulted in a substantial reduction in forklift incidents.
Post's Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate remained steady while the incidence of all work-related injuries decreased slightly, by 2 per cent. Post maintained its successful rehabilitation and return to work program.

Get a Balanced Life |
Post's integrated workplace health and attendance improvement program, Get a Balanced Life, entered its third year and continued to attract interest from other major Australian companies and government agencies.
A personal health risk assessment questionnaire distributed to staff in August 2001 achieved a 20 per cent response against an average 14 per cent response in equivalent programs in the US.
One-third of 1999 participants responded in 2001, recording reductions in smoking and improvement in self-care and driving habits - an overall risk reduction of 10 per cent. On average, 200 staff every month contacted the Health Resource Centre, introduced as part of the Gold Post 2000 program and operated by an independent organisation.
Further improvement occurred in staff attendance rates in the six months to December 2001 before levelling out, an issue being addressed across Post and supported by the continuation of Get a Balanced Life.
