Linda Nicholls has more than 25 years’ experience as a senior executive and company director in the insurance and financial services industries in Australia, New Zealand and the United States. A member of the Australia Post board since 1989, she was appointed chairman in September 1997 and reappointed for a further three years in September 2003.

Mrs Nicholls is deputy chairman of Healthscope and a director of St George Bank, Perpetual Trustees and the Sigma Pharmaceutical Group.

David Mortimer has executive experience in the banking, finance and transport industries and is a former managing director and chief executive officer of TNT. First appointed deputy chairman of Australia Post in June 2001, he was reappointed in June 2004 for a four-year term.

Mr Mortimer is chairman of Citect Corporation, MIA Group and Crescent Capital Partners. He is also a director of Virgin Blue Holdings, Petsec Energy, Adsteam Marine, Macquarie Infrastructure Investment Management, Leighton Holdings and Arrow Pharmaceuticals.

Managing Director

Graeme John joined Australia Post as chief manager national operations in 1990 and was appointed managing director of the corporation in 1993. He became an Officer of the Order of Australia in June 2003 for his strategic leadership of Australia Post and for fostering corporate support of charitable organisations.

Mr John is a director and alternative chairman of Australian air Express and Star Track Express. He is also a commissioner of the Australian Football League and a member of the Business Council of Australia, the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Committee for Melbourne.

MARK A BIRRELL

Mark Birrell has had a successful career in public policy and the law, with extensive experience in the fields of infrastructure, major projects and industry development. He was appointed to the Australia Post board in August 2003 for a three-year term.

Mr Birrell is a solicitor and consultant with national legal firm Minter Ellison. He is a former cabinet minister in Victoria and government leader in the Legislative Council.

PETER A MCLAUGHLIN

Peter McLaughlin has had a distinguished career as an economic adviser and human resources consultant. Initially appointed to the Australia Post board in November 1997, his current term expires in November 2006.

Mr McLaughlin was formerly executive vice president Asia Pacific for the Empower Group and executive director of the Business Council of Australia. He was also first assistant secretary of the departments of Prime Minister and Cabinet (1982–83) and Treasury (1983–86).

Sandra McPhee has extensive executive experience in sales, marketing and consumer roles with a number of major international consumer brands. First appointed to the Australia Post board in October 2001, she has been reappointed until October 2007.

Ms McPhee was formerly Group General Manager Alliances at Qantas. She is a non-executive director of Coles Myer, Perpetual Trustees, Primelife Corporation, the Art Gallery of NSW and St Vincents and Mater Health.

HELEN M NUGENT AO

A full-time company director with executive experience in strategy, change management and finance, Helen Nugent retired from the Australia Post board in June 2004 after three years’ service.

Formerly director of strategy at Westpac, Dr Nugent is now chairman of Swiss Re (Australia) Group and Funds SA. She is also a director of Macquarie Bank, UNiTAB, Origin Energy, Carter Holt Harvey and Freehills.

EDWARD D TWEDDELL

Ed Tweddell has over 25 years of corporate leadership experience in the pharmaceutical and health care industries. First appointed to the Australia Post board in November 2001, he has been reappointed until November 2007.

Dr Tweddell was the group managing director and chief executive officer of FH Faulding and Co. from 1993 to 2001. He is currently chairman of Ansell and the Nepenthe Group and a director of Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO).

Ian Warner has had a distinguished legal and commercial career. First appointed to the Australia Post board in June 2001, he has been reappointed until September 2007.

Mr Warner is a former senior partner, and currently a senior consultant, at Jackson McDonald Barristers and Solicitors. He is chairman of Rivaknar Properties (WA), deputy chairman of Amcom Telecommunications and a director of Cape Bouvard Investments.
