BULK MAIL SERVICES

BARCODING OF PRESORT LETTERS

Barcoding of bulk mail lodgements has delivered a number of benefits to business customers, including access to lower bulk postage prices, improved addressing accuracy and higher levels of on-time delivery performance. Post helps major customers who need assistance with printing machine-readable barcodes on their mail, via a customer barcoding program that combines education, consultancy and technical support.

The overall customer barcoding program includes a diverse range of quality assurance products and services, such as the Address Matching Approval System, the Barcoding Quality Program, Customer Barcode Quality Assurance software, the Mail Piece Testing consultation service and the PreSort Accuracy Testing program.

To ensure that the value of letters is maintained for bulk mailers, Post is committed to engaging with business customers and industry partners to simplify bulk mail processes. This includes working with customers to simplify the lodgement of letters and the introduction of further quality programs for large-volume mailers.

EDI POST

EDI Post specialises in the electronic acceptance, preparation and printing of invoices, statements, accounts, cheques and direct mail from high-volume mailers. EDI Post’s revenue declined by 10 per cent in 2003–04, mainly as a result of several customers changing to other service providers after tender processes. Post eLetter, EDI Post’s desktop mail service, was enhanced during the year by offering clients a full-colour, digital printing service. EDI Post also introduced a new system of archival storage and retrieval.

EASY MAIL

Easy Mail is a convenient new service that gives small and medium-sized businesses the opportunity to outsource the preparation and barcoding of their mail lodgements. Easy Mail customers simply send an electronic copy of their database, along with a copy of the mailing documents, and Post handles the printing, collating, folding, addressing, enveloping and barcoding of their mail-out. Businesses using the Easy Mail service can get Post to handle one element of the mail-out or the entire process. The Easy Mail service also enables customers to access the maximum postage discount available.

PRINT POST

In October 2003, a number of changes were introduced to Print Post, Post’s service for mailing publications, to align it with the new large letter processing network. New guidelines, simplified product design and a new pricing structure for the service are designed to increase volumes by making Print Post easier to access.

UNADDRESSED MAIL

The Unaddressed Delivery Service is a low-cost mail service for delivering unaddressed advertising items (such as flyers, brochures and catalogues) within a specified area. Unaddressed mail volumes grew strongly for the third consecutive year, with 10.3 per cent growth in 2003–04 driven by increasing recognition among advertisers of the benefits of distributing sales material via letterboxes. During the year, Post developed changes to the service that were introduced on 1 July 2004. Now known as Unaddressed Mail, it has a new set of national standards for booking, lodgement and delivery. The pricing system has also been simplified and standardised, with a price increase of about one cent per item.
