| The Birdwing Butterfly (the large butterfly featured in the miniature sheet above) is found in Papua New Guinea and from Torres Strait to Mackay and Cooktown in Queensland and is part of the Swallowtail family which includes the Ulysses. This butterfly is Australia's largest butterfly species. |
The male of this Birdwing Butterfly species is a rich green and blue on the undersurface, with a bright metallic green coloration on the upper surface of the wings which span 125mm. The female, which is dark in colour, is much larger than the male with a wingspan of 180mm. |
