Hi everyone. Come on, let's go see what it's like to be a van driver at Australia Post hey
[Video] Emrah (a man with dark hair and a beard, wearing a high vis shirt and vest) stands next to his Australia Post red van speaking to the camera

In our morning shifts we grab whatever mail we need that's on our checklist for the day and deliver them where they need to go
[Video] Emrah gets into the drivers’ side of the van. Emrah walks towards a cage inside the facility with some parcels on it. He ties up some bags filled with parcels and puts them on the cage

Throughout the day we'll have other mail that we deliver our customers that we pick up from the post office
[Video] Emrah takes the cage to his van, opens the side of the van and unloads the contents of the cage into the van. He gets into the driver’s side of the van.

In the afternoon shift, we're not really delivering.
[Video] The van reverses out of it’s spot inside the facility

We're picking up from all the different retail stores or wherever it might be that's on our scanner for that day and then come back with a van full of mail, drop them off into the facility
[Video] Inside the van, Emrah is driving the van. The van is then seen driving through the carpark at the Australia Post facility and into the entrance of the facility. Emrah reverses into an available space, opens up the back of his van next to the conveyor belt and begins to unload the packages from the van.

In the morning, all this is empty.
[Video] Emrah gestures to the empty facility, camera pans to show an empty floor

Us van drivers, we come and park in these spots over here in the morning when it's quiet and then, and inside this cage, that's where all the parcel lockers are sorted for all the various different suburbs.
[Video] Emrah points to spaces in the facility where he would park. A red van is seen pulling into one of the spots. Emrah walks down the safe walking path of yellow striped lines and points to a caged room

The post office will have maybe 7 or 8 different businesses that gets their mail delivered to the post office.
[Video] Emrah stands in front of 3 empty cages and speaks to camera. He is seen inside his van driving around the facility carpark.

And then it's us as drivers responsibility to go and collect those letters or those PO Boxes or those parcels or whatever the, the Postie can't deliver because they're too big or they don't go into that actual area, us drivers, us van drivers will come and take it from the post office.
[Video] Emrah drives around the carpark of the facility. He continues to speak to camera in front of the empty cages

We need to make sure that when we're sorting our vans we're very organised as to where we put everything.
[Video] Emrah closes the doors to the back of the van. He stands in front of ULDs and points to some of the different ones
1:00
It just makes the whole process a lot easier.
[Video] Camera pans across ULDs labelled ‘Small Parcels’ and ‘Large Parcels – All states’

We call this area the array. So the vans will back up into here, they'll take their bags out, the bags will then get placed inside these cages and then all the larger boxes will get taken to the belt.
[Video] Emrah stands in front of the ULDs in the array and gestures where the vans park. There ae no vans parked there at the moment. Emrah stands in front of the empty array and talks to the camera
1:10
But this is the conveyor belt that all the larger boxes get put onto.
[Video] Emrah walks next to the conveyor belt with packages moving along it, and points to the conveyor belt
1:13
The drivers will reverse into the spots and place the boxes on the belt, which then get sent around the facility.
[Video] Emrah unloads boxes from inside the van onto the conveyor belt

I'll be in Werribee for three weeks, I'll be in Altona another three weeks, I'll be in the city for another month. So I'd go somewhere different every every week. It's just such a great place to work.
[Video] Emrah stands inside an empty facility and speaks directly to camera
